Electromagnetic Windows

Electromagnetic (EM) Windows are designed to protect and conceal antennas and communications arrays with minimal impact on antenna performance.

With proven reliability and low lifecycle costs, custom designed SHEERGARD® EM Windows protect and conceal sensitive radar and communication installations. Suitable for sensitive, high-security environments and system compatible for commercial use.

SHEERGARD EM Windows are virtually transparent to electromagnetic energy in the frequency ranges found in contemporary systems. Easily integrated into existing substructures, design flexibility allows us to partner with you to deliver customized solutions to fit your application.

Electromagnetic Windows

SHEERGARD EM windows have several features which deliver outstanding performance and lifetime value. Custom design engineered by a dedicated team of structural, mechanical and PE licensed engineers, the specially designed composite materials provide high tensile strength, and tear and impact resistance. SHEERGARD® materials can be used in a broad variety of environmental conditions, including  temperatures ranging from Arctic cold to desert heat (typically from -60°F (-51°C) to +400°F (200°C)).

These composites feature a PTFE surface, enabling lifelong hydrophobic performance and ensuring that there is never a need to reapply a surface finish. Unsurpassed RF performance (featuring dielectric constants of less than 2.8) results in minimal energy scattering into the antenna sidelobe and mitigates against cross-polarization and noise temperature. SHEERGARD® composites have been tested extensively for environmental robustness, and offer reliable protection in even the most extreme conditions (including winds over 210mph (340km/h). These composites are also resistant to hail, offer low thermal conductivity and good RF performance at high incidence angles (up to 70 degrees). Consequently, SHEERGARD EM Windows combine technical excellence with inherent durability.

Applications

SHEERGARD EM Windows are most commonly installed as flat panels to protect and conceal communications equipment and antennas. They are often used in conjunction with traditional building materials to provide a full protective enclosure while having “windows” of low insertion loss to allow for unfettered performance.

Installations have included shipboard EM windows, rooftop concealment EM windows and more. Please consult with us to discuss your particular needs.

Unsurpassed RF Performance

The primary function of a radome is to protect the enclosed antenna system while having minimal effect on the transmission of the electromagnetic signal.

Structural Modeling

Finite element analysis is applied to a wide range of structures, from simple spheres and electromagnetic windows to custom configurations.

Extreme Environmental Protection

SHEERGARD PTFE coated fabrics have been analyzed and tested for structural application to all environmental conditions.

Proven Reliability

The materials used for radome fabrication are composites consisting of a woven substrate fabric protected with applied coatings, providing tensile strength and tear resistance.

Low Life-Cycle Cost

The PTFE coating of SHEERGARD materials provides superior life-long hydrophobic performance, so no reapplication of surface finish is ever required.
