Air-Supported Radomes
SHEERGARD® air-supported radomes protect antenna systems while providing outstanding electromagnetic transmission performance throughout a broad range of frequencies.
Air-supported radomes are constructed using PTFE coated, high performance fabrics. The fabrics are designed to provide a robust construction that can withstand the toughest environmental conditions.
Fully redundant pressurization systems and controls give SHEERGARD air-supported radomes extremely high reliability and long-term durability.
Why Choose SHEERGARD Air-Supported Radomes
Designed for rapid deployment and long-term durability, these radomes offer exceptional RF transparency across a broad frequency range, while their single-piece, band-agnostic membrane ensures clean operation and simplified logistics. With decades of proven success in mission-critical applications—including ATC, weather monitoring, satellite communications, and deep space—Sheergard air-supported radomes represent a top-tier solution for customers who demand performance, flexibility, and lasting value.
Key Benefits of SHEERGARD Air-Supported Radomes:
-
-
- Environmental Protection: Sheergard radomes shield antennas from wind, rain, and snow, enhancing system resilience and uptime.
- Unmatched Electromagnetic Performance: Sheergard Air-Supported radomes provide best-in-class radio frequency performance with minimal signal loss, outperforming other radome types in electromagnetic efficiency. Excellent RF characteristics covering L, S, C, X, Ku, Ka and W bands.
- Fast and Efficient Deployment: Ideal for urgent installations—can be deployed rapidly when sensitive equipment must be protected from environmental exposure or to reduce equipment downtime. Quicker installation timelines reduce risk of damage to the antenna equipment and to the radome itself.
- Customizable Designs: Adaptable to a variety of shapes and configurations to meet specific antenna concealment or environmental protection needs.
- Exceptional Hydrophobic Performance: Built with materials that maintain long-term water repellency, reducing surface maintenance and preserving performance over the life of the radome.
- Proven Reliability: Sheergard flexible composites have a rich history of proven longevity and reliability.
-
Key Features of SHEERGARD Air-Supported Radome Products:
-
-
- Scalable Size Options: Available in a wide range of diameters—from compact 4-meter solutions to structures exceeding 70 meters—supporting both tactical and large-scale installations.
- Frequency Range: Engineered for frequencies up to W-band.
- Single Piece Envelope: Sealing is not required which means less chance of water intrusion or sealant failure. No fastener penetrations also reduces the chance for leaks.
- Multi-antenna Systems: Since the membrane is frequency band agnostic, performance for several types of antennas within the same structure will not be affected as with Sandwich radomes.
- Long Service Life: Designed for 20+ years of operational performance with minimal radome maintenance, even in harsh environmental conditions.
- Solar Rejection Properties: Excellent solar protection, particularly with standard white exteriors.
- Lower Shipping and Logistics Burden for Large Systems: Fabric membranes and blower systems can often fit into less containers than rigid panel large radomes reducing logistical costs.
- Incombustible Materials: Membranes utilize materials known to be incombustible such as aramids, fiberglass, and fluoropolymers.
- Wind Rating: Up to 220 mph | 98 m/s.
- Hail Impact Resistance: Independently tested with 3½ diameter hail balls at 150 mph with no damage to radome.
- Environmental Testing: Radome membrane has been tested to MIL-STD-810 for temperature, humidity, ozone, ice, sand, dust.

SHEERGARD Air-Supported Radomes deliver unmatched performance and durability for mission-critical applications including ATC, Weather, Deep Space, and Satellite Communications.
Materials Technical Data
Export Control:
Export of SHEERGARD air-supported radomes are covered under EAR99 No License Required. This allows easier export of these systems for applications such as Satcom, Military Radars under USML Category XI and Telemetry/Tracking Systems under USML category XV.

Unsurpassed RF Performance
The primary function of a radome is to protect the enclosed antenna system while having minimal effect on the transmission of the electromagnetic signal.

Structural Modeling
Finite element analysis is applied to a wide range of structures, from simple spheres and electromagnetic windows to custom configurations.

Extreme Environmental Protection
SHEERGARD PTFE coated fabrics have been analyzed and tested for structural application to all environmental conditions.

Proven Reliability
The materials used for radome fabrication are composites consisting of a woven substrate fabric protected with applied coatings, providing tensile strength and tear resistance.

Low Life-Cycle Cost
The PTFE coating of SHEERGARD materials provides superior life-long hydrophobic performance, so no reapplication of surface finish is ever required.
